About the Instructors

Sensei Dave Ogren

Sensei Dave Ogren is a fourth-degree black belt in Shotokan Karate and has been involved in karate since 1984. He holds his National Coaching Certification Program Level 1 in Karate and was a Level B Provincial referee and level B National judge. Dave was a member of Manitoba’s Provincial Karate Team for four years; was the instructor of the Churchill Karate Club for three years; trained at the Japan Karate Association’s Headquarters dojo in Tokyo, Japan for four months; and has also studied Judo and Kendo briefly.

Dave has won medals both provincially and nationally, including 1st place kumite and 2nd place in kata in the 2010 Karate Manitoba Provincials, and 1st place in kumite and 2nd place in kata in the 2008 JKA International of Canada National Tournament.

Sempai Kim Ogren

Sempai Kim Ogren is a second-degree black belt in Shotokan Karate and has been involved in karate since 1990. She is a former provincial black belt champion in both kata and kumite. Kim has been a recipient of Manitoba’s Order of Sports Excellence as both an athlete and as a trainer. Kim was the assistant instructor of the Churchill Karate Club for three years and is the co-ordinator and assistant instructor of the Lac du Bonnet Karate Club. Kim is a certified personal trainer and was the trainer for Karate Manitoba’s Provincial Team from 2009 – 2013.
